Obituary

Doris Jean Karr passed away at her home in Holly Lake Ranch, Texas on January 23, 2020 at the age of 77. Doris was born on November 16th, 1942 in Lorenzo, Texas to Wade and Maxine Reynolds. She leaves behind her sister, Beverly Fitch, (nieces - Amy Potter and Valerie Morris, nephew - Tim Fitch), and her brother who preceded her in death, Donald Reynolds, (niece - Vickie Reynolds).

On August 4th, 1962, she married Frank Karr in Lubbock, Texas. During their nearly 58 years of marriage they had two daughters, Cherie Karr (James B. Frazier) and Kristie Karr Canady (James Canady) as well as two grandsons, Thomas Canady and Brian Canady. Doris was a sweet, beautiful, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother who had the kindest, gentlest, most loving soul. Her family was her whole world, especially her grandsons. There was nothing more important to her than her family.

Some of Doris’ favorite things were sewing, working cross word puzzles, cooking, traveling with her family, and watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. She also loved going to church and singing hymns. She led her life with a gentle and quiet spirit. She believed that God’s love would always light a path as far as she could step.

When Doris’ loved ones needed a guiding hand she would recall the scripture from Deuteronomy, “The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” These are words with which we take comfort in today.

Proof of Doris’ genuine compassion for others can be found in her favorite scriptures in 1 Corinthians 13:1-13. She once memorized the entire passage many years ago but her favorite part was at the end, “Now these three remain; faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.” Doris Jean Karr was loved and will remain in the hearts of her family and friends.

A memorial will be held for Doris’ immediate family in the near future.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
